Ms. Lakshmi Dharmesh

The Art Club recently hosted an enriching and interactive session led by esteemed guest speaker Ms. Lakshmi Dharmesh, who conducted a comprehensive workshop on the traditional Indian folk art form—Madhubani painting, also known as Mithila art. Originating from the state of Bihar, this vibrant art form is renowned for its intricate patterns and use of natural themes.

Ms. Dharmesh began the session by introducing the history and cultural significance of Madhubani art, elaborating on its two prominent styles—Kachni (line work) and Bharni (color-filled). She then provided each participant with an art sheet and guided them step-by-step, starting with designing borders and gradually progressing to a central composition featuring a bird perched on a branch.

The session sparked engaging discussions and encouraged students to explore their creativity through detailed patterns and the use of vivid colors. Participants displayed a high level of enthusiasm and curiosity, resulting in a vibrant and memorable learning experience.

This session not only deepened the students' appreciation for Indian folk art but also allowed them to express their artistic talents in a culturally significant medium.
